Importance of Getting Your Eyes Checked

Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley

One of the many services we are proud to provide to our community is Vision Care, our Optometry Department is located at our Auburn Health Center. In honor of Cataract Awareness Month, we remind you to take steps to protect your vision and to maintain good eye health.

A couple of months ago we wrote a blog post about workplace eye wellness discussing the importance of protecting your eyes while at work. If you have not read it yet, it can be found in our list of latest blog posts or click HERE. In addition to keeping your eyes safe in your everyday life, it is also important to get your eyes checked by an Optometrist, to make sure your eyes are healthy, and vision is good.

What are some common eyes diseases and their symptoms?

  • Glaucoma is a disease that affects the nerves in your eye and is more common amongst older individuals. Symptoms include redness and sudden pain and can have lasting effects, even causing blindness if not treated early.

  • Cataracts causes your vision to blur and is a visible change to your eye, making the pupil look cloudy. People with diabetes are at higher risk of getting cataracts and can also be caused by exposure to UV rays.

  • A Sty is a common infection in a person’s eye that resembles a pimple on one’s eyelid. These can be painful and cause irritation to the eye. If not treated, it can affect your sight.

  • Diabetic Retinopathy can occur in people with diabetes, affecting the blood vessels within the eye. This occurs when there is not enough blood circulation within the eye, sometimes causing blood vessels to grow and bleed. Depending on the severity, surgery may be needed and if left untreated can cause blindness.

Glasses or Contact?

In addition to the above eye diseases, sometime our eyes just get older and our visions starts to worsen, and we are in need of some extra assistance. Or maybe we were born with poor eyesight. Whichever it might be, seeing Chapa-De’s Optometrist can help you make informed decision about getting glasses or contacts.

In order to preserve your sight, we recommend scheduling eye appointments for yourself and family members as young as the age of 4 years old. There are many different types of eye complications, but these are all things that we can help with and make sure that your and your children’s eyes are cared for. All you need to do is make an appointment.

What services does Chapa-De’s Optometry team provide?

  • Comprehensive Eye Health and Vision Examinations
  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Eye Diseases and Vision Disorders
  • Detection of General Health Problems
  • Prescribing Glasses, Contact Lenses, and Medication
  • Performing Minor Surgical Procedures

How can I schedule an appointment?

We see patients by appointment for eye examinations. You do not need an appointment to see the optician for frame selection, repairs, or adjustments. We do our best to accommodate patients who need a same-day appointment for an eye emergency. To schedule an appointment, please call (530) 887-2810.
