Red Ribbon Week (Oct 23-31)
Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic
Red Ribbon Week is an important time for us at Chapa-De. We want to remind everyone about the effects of alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse. Sadly, misuse of these substances is not uncommon in our communities. In order to help change that, we all have to educate ourselves on the effects these substances have on ourselves and the people around us.
What is the history or Red Ribbon Week?
Red Ribbon Week began in 1985 after Enrique Camarena was murdered. He was a Drug Enforcement Agent who was killed in Mexico. He was working to end drug related violence. After his murder, people started to wear a red ribbon in his memory. The red ribbon became a national symbol for the fight against drug and alcohol related violence and has helped educated communities ever since.
