The seasons are changing, and now is the perfect time to take important steps to stay on top of your health– both physical and mental.

The Importance of COVID-19 Vaccines & Boosters

As the weather turns colder and people spend more time indoors, we will most likely see another COVID-19 surge. However, you can put yourself and your loved ones in the best position possible by keeping up on your vaccinations and booster shots. As new variants arise, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems will be especially vulnerable to the virus if they aren’t up to the date on their shots.

The updated booster shot works to boost immunity against the original coronavirus strain while also protecting against the newer Omicron variants that currently account for 99% of all new cases. The goal of the new formula is to deliver higher protection, longer protection, and broader protection. You should get an updated booster shot at least two months after your most recent booster or primary series of the COVID-19 vaccine. It is recommended that you get a booster shot as soon as you are eligible.

The Importance of Flu Shots

Millions of people get the flu each year. Young children, people with certain chronic health conditions, pregnant people, and elders are especially at risk of serious flu complications. Even people who are young and healthy can have severe symptoms and spread the virus to others who are at higher risk.

Getting a flu shot can lower the risk of getting the flu by about half. At Chapa-De, we encourage everyone age 6 months and over to get their flu shot as soon as possible. Getting a flu shot every year is the best way to protect yourself and those around you from the flu virus.

It is both free and easy to get the flu shot. At Chapa-De, flu shots are offered during all in-person medical appointments for both adults and children. Quick, immunization only appointments are also available for adults and children. Or, patients age 12 years and over can also walk-in without an appointment and get a flu shot between the hours of 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM Monday thru Friday.

Flu shots are also available at your local CVS or Walgreens for free.

Both the flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at the same time, though we recommend receiving the shots in different arms.

As the temperature continues to drop, seasonal depression can also start to creep up. If you experience this, know that you are not alone.
