Getting Your Flu Shot Has Never Been More Important

Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic

This year our world changed. COVID-19 affected our daily lives and how our communities and healthcare clinics operate. As the summer months end and fall brings colder weather, we need to prepare for our world to potentially change again.

“Getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever during 2020-2021 flu season to protect yourself, your family and your community from flu.” – CDC

Why is it more important this year?

Year after year, hundreds of thousands of people are hospitalized by the flu. They need hospital staff’s help and beds to use. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are less hospital beds available than in years past. It is important to remember that COVID-19 is not gone. It is still a risk and more and more people are infected week-by-week. This year, there will not be enough hospital beds for people with COVID-19 and the flu. That is why it is so important to get the flu vaccine. Protect yourself and those around you.

Important Notes:

  • It is possible to catch COVID-19 and the flu at the same time
  • The flu vaccine will not protect you from COVID-19
  • Getting a flu shot will protect you and those around you from the flu
  • It is important to get a new flu shot every year

Why Don’t People Get Flu Shots?

There are many myths about the flu. Please click HERE to review some of the most common myths and the truth behind them. The vaccine will not give you the flu and complications from the shot are very rare. Getting the vaccine is your best protection against the disease. Every year the flu shot saves countless lives, protecting families and communities.

Don’t wait to get your flu shot this year. Make sure you and your family are protecting yourselves and making smart and health decisions to stay safe.
