Immunizations are necessary to prevent certain diseases and illnesses. They are especially important for our children and their health. With Back to School quickly approaching, make sure your child is up to date on their immunizations today.

What are immunizations?

Immunizations, sometimes referred to as vaccinations or vaccines, are shots that help to prevent you from contracting a harmful disease or illness. They work by preparing your body to fight against different illnesses.

Each vaccine has a dead or weakened germ that is known to cause a certain disease. By introducing the disease to your body in this way, your body will learn how to stop the disease and keep you protected.

What immunizations do I need?

There are many different kinds of immunizations that we need at different stages in our lives. Some immunizations we get once to prevent a disease, like the Chickenpox vaccine, and others we get more than once, like the flu shot, for new protection every year. Other vaccines are given once and are then followed with what is called a booster vaccine to make sure you are still protected.

You get different immunizations at different ages. Check out this schedule for your child’s immunizations:

Where can I get immunizations?

At Chapa-De, we encourage patients to schedule an appointment with your medical provider to discuss and receive recommended immunizations. We also offer walk-in immunization clinics that do not require an appointment. These walk-in clinics are every Tuesdays and Thursday from 1 PM to 4:30 PM at our Auburn Medical Department and on Wednesday, August 7th and Wednesday, August 28th from 1:00pm – 4:30pm at our Grass Valley Medical Department.

Most doctors and clinics are authorized to give immunizations. If you do not have a primary care provider that you see regularly, it may be best to visit a health center or clinic like Chapa-De. To find an affordable health center close to you, click HERE.

Immunizations and Back to School

With school starting again sooner than we realize, it’s important to make sure our children are as healthy as possible before sending them back to class. It’s no secret that a sick child makes for a difficult time. Also, when one child gets sick, it is likely that other children around him or her will get sick, too.

The best way to stop your child from getting a harmful illness is to make sure they have their immunizations before returning to school. This will protect them from getting a disease from another child. Also, California schools require certain immunizations in order for your child to attend.
