Chapa-De’s Centering Group Visits

Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic

This month, our team is excited to share information about our Centering Group Visits. Group visits are a new and innovative way for Chapa-De to deliver effective health services to patients. Haven’t heard of Centering Group Visits? Not to worry! This blog will share helpful information about this service.

How can you benefit? Why is this effective?

Group visits provide patients with quality time with their care team in a group setting. In a group setting, you realize that you are not alone. You are paired with patients going through the same types of medical issues that you are experiencing. Patients also feel a sense a community and that is something that is often hard to find when visiting a doctor’s office.

At Chapa-De, we have found that patients enjoy the sense of community and group setting because:

  • Patients often forget some of the questions that they want to ask. In a group visit, it is very likely someone else has the same questions as you.
  • Patients can listen to what worked and what didn’t for fellow patients when it comes to treatment and health management.
  • Patients don’t feel the same pressures that they sometimes do in a one-on-one visit.

A typical visit with a Chapa-De Medical Provider lasts about 10 – 20 minutes, depending on the patient’s needs. A group visit lasts approximately 90 minutes, giving patients more time to learn about their health conditions and how best to manage their health.

Patients who attend group visits also get one-on-one time with their provider. The Chapa-De staff make sure there is time for personal questions and interactions with all group attendees.

What services does Chapa-De offer group visits for?

We currently offer group visits for:

  • Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Diabetes Management

Coming Soon:

On March 31st, we will launch Centering Group Visits for well child visits in our Auburn Medical Department. This first group will include babies born during the month of February 2020.

We have adopted Centering Group Visits at Chapa-De because they are specially designed and proven to deliver better health outcomes. Centering helps to build a community of support which is especially important for parents with young children.  Centering also empowers parents with hands-on participation during the visit and time for socialization and group discussion with other parents. And this isn’t a one-time group, the families who participate will stay together as a cohort and will continue to receive care together as their babies grow.
