Chapa-De’s Substance Use Disorder Treatment:
A Universal Way to Help Those in Need
Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic
“The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells Great Spirit and this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.”
– Black Elk
As we raise awareness for alcoholism and substance use disorders, we would like patients reading this blog to reference the above quote. While this quote comes from native teachings, its meaning is universal, and it is a message that Chapa-De would like to highlight.
We are always proud of those that have the courage to seek help when struggling with addiction, realizing that they are in need of support and guidance. At Chapa-De, we offer a unique service for patients searching for that support.
What are Substance Use Disorders?
Substance Use Disorders are when the continued use of alcohol and/or drugs causes major impairments. This includes health problems, disability, and inability to meet responsibilities at work, school, or home. Alcoholism is the most common substance use disorder.
What does it mean to suffer from alcoholism?
Alcoholism is when someone becomes dependent on drinking alcohol. Their mind and body believe that they need it to survive. When stress comes on, they drink. In order to fall asleep, they drink. A person’s genetics, environment and psychological traits all contribute to this.

How can Chapa-De help?
Now more than ever, it is not unbelievable to think that people struggling with addiction are turning to substances like alcohol. In wake of the spreading coronavirus, which has brought so much uncertainty and has forced people to isolate for the health of the overall community, those who have traditionally looked to group therapy or in-person addiction sessions seem to be left without support.
That is not the case at Chapa-De.
At Chapa-De, we want all our patients to know that during COVID-19, and all throughout the year, we are here for you. Our dedicated staff is still available to those seeking help due to substance use addiction. Our telehealth and over the phone services provide patients with the opportunity to still get the help that they need virtually.
