National Breastfeeding Month

August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month and Chapa-De wants to share with our patients the importance of breastfeeding and how it can work for you and your baby.

Nursing is a different experience for every mother and baby, so what works for one mom, may not work for the next. It is important to remember that it can take some time before you feel comfortable with breastfeeding, and every mom will feel comfortable at their own pace.

How is Breastfeeding Beneficial for Baby?

  • Breast milk helps to keep your baby healthy
  • Supplies necessary nutrients
  • Protects against allergies, sickness, and diseases like diabetes and cancer
  • Protects against infections, such as ear infections
  • Your breast milk is constantly changing in order to meet your baby’s needs
  • Breast milk is easily digestible which means no constipation, diarrhea or upset stomach for baby

How is Breastfeeding Beneficial for Mom?

  • Reduces mom’s risk for Type 2 Diabetes and certain cancers, such as breast cancer
  • Often able to get back to their pre-baby weight easier than mothers who do not breastfeed
  • Provides important one-on-one time for mom and baby, and helps to build a stronger bond

Chapa-De wants to ensure your experience as a mother is as happy and healthy as possible. In addition to getting your Prenatal Care with one of our caring and knowledgeable doctors, you can participate in our Baby Luv program, which offers classes and one-on-one information about pregnancy, childbirth, baby care, and breastfeeding.

By participating in these classes, moms can also earn Baby Luv points which can be used in the Baby Luv store to purchase baby clothes, blankets, monitors and bobby nursing pillows. The highly trained and caring staff at Chapa-De supports mothers through every step of their pregnancy and beyond!
