Post COVID Conditions
Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic
Most people who become infected with COVID-19 get better within a couple weeks, but some people experience post-COVID conditions, also known as “long COVID.” Post-COVID conditions are a wide range of new, returning, or ongoing health problems people can experience four or more weeks after first being infected with the COVID-19 virus.
Long COVID Symptoms & Impact
Approximately 10% to 30% of patients may experience long COVID, even if they only had mild symptoms in the first place. This can also affect children, whose symptoms are similar to those of adults experiencing long COVID.
Symptoms of long COVID can include:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Tiredness or fatigue
- Symptoms that get worse after physical or mental activities
- Difficulty thinking or concentrating
- Cough
- Chest or stomach pain
- Headache
- Fast-beating or pounding heart

If these symptoms are severely impacting your daily life, there are resources available to you. As of July 2021, long COVID can be considered a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Learn more about it HERE.
How Chapa-De Can Help
If you are suffering from Post-COVID conditions, know that you are not alone. The providers at Chapa-De are here to help you navigate and treat your symptoms. It is also important to not self-diagnose yourself with post-COVID right away. Speak with your doctor first to make sure your symptoms aren’t related to another medical condition.
Vaccines can prevent post-COVID conditions. Vaccinated patients are 50% less likely to develop long COVID, even if they experienced a breakthrough infection. If you are not yet vaccinated and have questions, Chapa-De has the answers for you. Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best way to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community. COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and free to patients.
