The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many people’s work and financial situations. Losing your job often also results in losing your health insurance. However, now is not the time to go without health coverage! People who have lost their health insurance due to COVID-19 may be eligible for Medi-Cal or Covered California health coverage.
What are Medi-Cal and Covered California?
Both Medi-Cal and Covered California are health coverage programs offered by the state of California. They have different benefits and eligibility requirements.
Medi-Cal
Medi-Cal is a program that offers free or low-cost health insurance to those who qualify. If you qualify, you can enroll in Medi-Cal year-round. Those who may be eligible include
- Low-income adults
- Families with children
- Seniors
- Persons with disabilities
- and more
You can learn more about Medi-Cal eligibility and find out if you qualify HERE.
Covered California
Covered California is the state’s health insurance marketplace where people can shop for health plans. You can enroll in a Covered California plan during the fall or sooner if you have lost your job and health coverage, especially if it’s a loss related to COVID. Some people qualify for a stipend that helps lower the cost of the available health plans. Learn more about insurance plans offered through Covered California HERE.
