Nurse Practitioner Sarah Fender Joins Chapa-De
Welcome to our Team!
Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic
We are excited to announce Nurse Practitioner Sarah Fender has joined the Chapa-De team! Sarah is now seeing patients at our Auburn Health Center.
Sarah is a family medicine provider and offers comprehensive whole-person primary care for patients one year and older. She also has a special interest in health span, lifestyle medicine and geriatrics. She said, “my goal is to improve the quality of life of all my patients.” She believes in the importance of listening to a patient’s concerns first. Then working with them to discuss their goals. Her approach to care is based on collaboration. She encourages patients to have an active role in their care and goals.
Sarah started her health care career working in urgent care and emergency services before moving into primary care. She said, “In urgent care and ER, I hated that I couldn’t follow up with patients. I would see them and treat them and then never know what happened to them. In primary care you can see patients at follow-up appointments and for years afterwards. You get to know them as individuals and feel a sense of connection to your community.”
As a tribal and community health center, Chapa-De is dedicated to serving patients who often have a hard time accessing quality healthcare services. All our providers are invested in this mission. Sarah said, “I think healthcare includes much more than medicine. Community is a huge contributor to health and wellness. I believe I can have the biggest impact working in both healthcare and community service.”
Sarah has long-standing roots in the Sacramento region. She grew up in Elk Grove and went to UC Davis for her undergraduate education. Afterwards, she attended the Samuel Merritt University College of Nursing in Sacramento. Outside of work, Sarah loves to exercise and spend time outdoors with her two dogs. She enjoys lifting weights, biking on trails, hiking, and stand up paddleboarding.
Please join us in welcoming Sarah to the Chapa-De team!
