Delta Variant COVID-19
Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our lives for over a year now. Here at Chapa-De, we know the value of keeping our community informed during this difficult time. We are committed to providing the up-to-date information you need. This includes information about the Delta variant of COVID-19.
What is the Delta Variant?
COVID-19 is caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2. Like all viruses, SARS-CoV-2 can change over time. This leads to different strains, or variants of the virus. The Delta variant is one of the strains of SARS-CoV-2. It has quickly become the most common strain in the United States.
The Delta variant is nearly two times more contagious than previous variants of COVID-19. This means it can spread faster, causing more infections. It is also believed that the Delta variant may cause more severe symptoms than other strains in unvaccinated persons. Learn more about the Delta variant HERE.
COVID-19 is very active and widespread in our local communities at this time due to the Delta variant. Our local hospitals are also having record high numbers of hospitalized COVID-19 patients because of the Delta variant and low vaccination rates locally.
How to Stop the Delta Variant
Getting vaccinated is the best way to beat COVID-19 and the Delta variant. We also recommend continuing to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status. Masks can protect you and the people around you.
Some fully vaccinated people have been infected with the Delta variant. However, we are seeing that these individuals are still much less likely to experience severe symptoms, to be hospitalized or to die from COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals.
