World Smile Day + The Power of Staying Positive

Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic

Friday, October 1 is World Smile Day! World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday in October each year. The day was created to encourage smiles around the world, regardless of politics, geography, and religion. Here at Chapa-De, we think it is a great chance to smile and spread kindness. We believe in the power of staying positive!

World Smile Day

World Smile Day was first celebrated in 1999. It was created by Harvey Ball. He is the artist who created the smiley face in 1963. According to World Smile Day’s official website, Harvey thought that everyone “should devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts throughout the world.”

World Smile Day is now celebrated each year all around the world. It is sponsored by the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation.

The Power of Staying Positive

Positive thinking and staying optimistic are important tools for emotional wellbeing. Some studies suggest that focusing on good things can have an impact on physical and mental health.

Some benefits to staying positive can include:

  • Better physical health
  • Better stress management
  • Better mood
  • More creativity
  • And more!

Trying to stay positive may seem hard for some people. Picturing positivity as a skill, instead of as a personality trait can help. Seeing positivity as something you can do, instead of something you are, can make it feel a bit more easy.
