The Importance of Pediatric Care & Childhood Wellness Visits

Childhood is an important time for growth and development. Staying on top of general pediatric care and check-ups are key to making sure that your child has a healthy future. We want all parents to know the importance of pediatric care and childhood wellness visits.
Why is Pediatric Care Important?
We encourage all parents to choose a medical provider they trust for their child and to see this provider on a regular basis. Children have different and more frequent care needs than adults. It is important to have regular visits to stay up to date on pediatric care and to meet your child’s needs.
Pediatric care appointments can include:
- Childhood Wellness Visits, or Well Child Checks
- Immunizations
- Sports physicals
- Addressing other needs or concerns
If you have a concern, or your child needs to see a provider at any point, having a provider established for your child can make it more comfortable to come in and receive care.

What are Childhood Wellness Visits?
Childhood Wellness Visits, or Well Child Checks, are a chance for your child’s doctor to keep track of their health and growth. Your child’s doctor will help you learn more about upcoming milestones and changes to be on the lookout for.
During a Childhood Wellness Visit, your child’s doctor will:
- Complete a physical exam
- Take the height and weight of the child
- Test hearing and vision (beginning at age 4)
- Give you information on sleep, safety, what to expect as your child grows and more.
