Asthma is a common disease that can affect both children and adults. People can also develop asthma later in life. Asthma is a chronic care condition. That means it requires ongoing monitoring and care to ensure it is appropriately addressed. Being diagnosed with asthma may seem scary, but many options are available to help people control their asthma.
What is Asthma?
According to the CDC, asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. People with asthma have asthma attacks. They are triggered by something bothering their lungs. Some common triggers are:
- Smoke from tobacco, or burning wood or grass
- Dust mites or cockroach allergens
- Outdoor air pollution
- Pets
- Mold
- Infections like the flu
Symptoms of asthma include:
- Wheezing
- Breathlessness
- Chest tightness
- Trouble breathing
- Coughing at night or early in the morning
