Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic

Dr. Alinea Stevens, the Medical Director at Chapa-De Indian Health, is also a medical provider. With a passion for prenatal care and substance use disorders treatment, Dr. Stevens splits her time between seeing patients and leading the medical department.

Dr. Stevens’ duties as a provider include in-clinic visits, telehealth visits, and working the drive-thru clinic. Dr. Stevens also works with the Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) virtual Zoom groups. Dr. Stevens enjoys her time as a provider because of “patient stories, and building relationships over time,” she said. “It is nice to be part of patient’s lives and sometimes their family’s life. It is a privilege and pleasure to take care of such wonderful people.”

As Medical Director, Dr. Stevens focuses on keeping up to date with the latest medical practices. She helps make sure Chapa-De provides the best possible care to patients and that Chapa-De is a great place to work.

“Our greatest strength is the people that work here,” said Dr. Stevens. “People come to work at Chapa-De because of our mission to serve the underserved. It is for this reason that everyone’s voice is important in providing care to patients and making this a good place to work.”

Chapa-De takes pride in growing to meet the needs of our community. When Dr. Stevens first started at Chapa-De, she saw an opportunity to add new prenatal care services and substance use disorder treatment. “When there is a need, people come together to get it done,” she said. “Chapa-De quickly created new programs to meet this need. We now offer these services and better care for these patients.”

Dr. Stevens’ role as Medical Director has also included a lot of work in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has affected people around the world, especially those that work in healthcare. “It has been draining on all of us in healthcare,” she said. “The best lesson I have learned is patience and forgiveness with others and myself as we get through this pandemic together.”

Making sure both patients and team members are supported during this time has been a priority for Dr. Stevens. She said, “We have put public health first. Chapa-De was one of the first clinics to offer drive-thru testing, telehealth, and immunizations. This is because our team is creative, passionate, and hardworking. They are really putting the work in to make things happen for our patients.”

Dr. Stevens went to SUNY Downstate Medical School. She completed her residency at UC Davis. She holds a Medical degree, as well as a Master’s in Public Health. Dr. Stevens is board-certified in both Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine.
