Meet Our Team

Chapa-De Indian Health Auburn Grass Valley | Medical Clinic

Holly Castro has worked as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor at Chapa-De for three years. She is one of the many Addiction Specialists at Chapa-De who offer treatment for addiction and substance use disorders.

The team at Chapa-De offers non-judgmental and compassionate care for all addictive diseases. A variety of providers work together to offer patients well-rounded treatment plans. According to Holly, “teamwork is of the utmost importance for our patients. When we all come together with our skillsets, this is a ‘dream team’. We are able to look at a patient from many angles to be able to offer them the best care we can with a host of resources.”

Holly offers direct patient care through individual counseling, weekly groups, and Red Road talking circles. She also spends time assisting with case management and case reviews, and researching new resources to share with patients. Her role allows her to do community outreach and patient follow ups as well. With a variety of tasks each day, she said, “anything I can do to serve our folks I will do.”

Holly finds joy from helping patients succeed. “I love being able to see them get their lives back and gain a new freedom that they did not previously have during active addiction,” she said. “Sometimes they get their families back, become hirable, live fulfilled lives, learn to give back to their community and fellows, and become who they want to be.”

There are many reasons Holly enjoys working at Chapa-De. The patient population, work ethic of her team members and beautiful facilities, combined with supportive leadership, have made Chapa-De a great workplace for Holly. A story that showcases these reasons comes from helping a patient navigate a terrible loss. She said, “while this beautiful soul was in the depths of despair, the interdisciplinary team came together to help them. We were able to see them to the other side of this horrific incident. They are now thriving 8 short months later. I got to watch our entire team come together and support this person at the top of their licenses.” She remembers the patient once signing off a zoom meeting by telling the team “I love you guys”. Holly said, “I am so blessed to be a part of this. The staff all teared up with joy at seeing this person in their new life. It was such a beautiful thing to behold.”

Holly appreciates Chapa-De’s genuine commitment to the community. She said that Chapa-De is “a quality organization that believes in serving all, including low/no income patients and the native community at large.” Holly is proud of the Chapa-De team. “Our team is strong, bold and will do what it takes to get the job done and serve our people. It brings tears to my eyes to watch them,” she said.

As a native community member herself, she enjoys working somewhere that encourages using traditional values and native culture in traditional and non-traditional ways. “It is a privilege to honor my own native heritage and help to bring whatever I can to help aid in the healing of so many who suffer,” she said. “In the teaching that I have received by my elders we say, ‘All my relations’ meaning ‘we are all related.’ The hurt of one is the hurt of all. Healing is possible and we NEVER give up hope.”

Holly Castro is a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CDAC). She graduated from the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals.
