Our founding purpose is to deliver quality and compassionate healthcare to American Indians.

Chapa-De Indian Health has a longstanding record of serving our community. Established in 1974, Chapa-De started in Auburn and then expanded to Grass Valley in the mid-1990s. Our founding mission was to address the lack of healthcare services for American Indians living in our area. While our mission has expanded to offer care to more underserved neighbors, our first priority remains to deliver high-quality and culturally informed healthcare services to American Indian people.

Our Foundation

Local American Indian community members founded Chapa-De. They aimed to create a space for native individuals and families to receive comprehensive care within the community. Our growth as an organization is based on the original vision of our founders. Today, patients who are members or descendants of Federally Recognized Tribes and California Indians can receive free and low-cost services at Chapa-De.

Our Future

Recently completed renovation projects at our health centers, and our new administrative building in Grass Valley, will allow us more space to serve our patients. We have expanded our team, facilities, and patient service areas.

  • In Grass Valley, this includes a new medical pod, a new dental pod, dedicated space for our Diabetes Program, and more!
  • In Auburn, this includes a new medical pod, dedicated telemedicine space, expanded space for our Diabetes Program with a new workout room, and more!

While these projects help us continue to expand and to provide the compassionate care our community deserves, we will always honor our foundation. We acknowledge that Chapa-De is located on the traditional lands of the Nisenan people. We look at the land’s history with gratitude and will honor the land and the Nisenan people in the present and in the future. Throughout our renovation projects, we used Nisenan tribal images in the artwork and décor designs. These touches display Chapa-De’s heart and core as a tribal health program. It also helps us ensure that American Indians feel comfortable and at-home in our health centers.

Our Commitment
