Chapa-De strives to keep our community up to date on the latest COVID-19 news. As a health care provider, we believe it is our duty to keep you informed and healthy. Below are several important updates related to the COVID-19 vaccine.

Chapa-De continues to provide COVID-19 vaccines to our patients on a walk-in basis no appointment needed Monday thru Friday 8:30 am – 11:00 am and 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Learn more HERE.

Vaccines for Youth

The COVID-19 vaccine is our best tool to further protect our children and to get life back to normal, including keeping schools, sports and youth clubs open. It’s important that all eligible individuals be vaccinated against COVID-19. The CDC recommends that everyone 12 years and older should get the COVID-19 vaccine.

  • The Pfizer vaccine received full FDA approval for people ages 16 and older and continues to be available for ages 12-15 under FDA emergency use authorization.
  • The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines continue to only be available to ages 18 and older.

Very soon, vaccines will also be approved for children aged 5-11. Pfizer completed their clinical trials with this age group and have submitted their data to be evaluated. The FDA and CDC will carefully review the trial data to ensure the vaccine is both safe and effective for these children before approving.

We know you have questions and may be wondering if vaccination is the right choice for your child. Please don’t hesitate, contact your child’s medical provider today to discuss your questions. Medical providers love the opportunity to discuss the latest science and data and to help keep children safe and healthy rather than treating them once they are already sick.

Booster Shots

Booster shots are designed to improve immunity if it has decreased over time. Recently, the FDA and CDC approved Pfizer booster shots for certain groups. Researchers are still determining if these will be needed for the other vaccines or other groups.

  • The CDC recommends booster doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for:
    • People aged 65 and older
    • Long-term care facility residents
    • Those aged 50-64 with underlying medical conditions
  • People aged 18-49 years with underlying medical conditions and those with an increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of their occupation or living situation may also receive a Pfizer booster shot and should consider talking with their medical provider about the costs and benefits.
  • This recommendation is specific to individuals who received the Pfizer vaccine as their primary vaccine series at least 6-months ago.

You can learn more about COVID-19 3rd dose or booster shots HERE.

3rd Vaccine Dose

The COVID-19 vaccine is both safe and effective at preventing severe symptoms and death from COVID-19. However, moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals are encouraged to receive a 3rd dose. This is not because the vaccine does not work. It is because these individuals may not have as strong of a response from the vaccine. This means that they may not build the same level of immunity. Receiving a 3rd dose of vaccine can help ensure they are protected at a more similar level as others.

Click HERE for more information about who is eligible for a 3rd dose.

Chapa-De is currently offering 3rd vaccine doses to immunocompromised patients who received their second Moderna or Pfizer vaccine more than 28 days ago.

Flu Shots

As we approach flu season, we also encourage everyone to get their flu shot. Unlike last winter, our communities are reopened. People are getting together more, and the flu will have a greater chance to spread. It is safe to get both a COVID-19 vaccine dose and a flu shot together. You do not need to delay one to get the other.

Drive-thru flu shots will be available at both Chapa-De locations on Tuesdays and Thursday from 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM from October 12th through October 28th. No appointment is needed.
