Is the Vaccine Safe for Children Ages 5-11?
Yes! The COVID-19 vaccine for children has been through rigorous testing and thorough review by the FDA and CDC. It is the same vaccine being offered to those ages 12 and older. However, it is given at a lower dose. It is safe and effective at preventing COVID-19. The FDA and CDC will continue to monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines, including among children.
The vaccine is also given to young children using a smaller needle. As with all other age groups who get the Pfizer vaccine, children ages 5-11 will need a second shot three weeks after their first shot.
