Native American Heritage Day

Today is Native American Heritage Day! It is a chance to spread awareness about the history of Native peoples. It is also a chance to learn more about the Native communities in your area. Here at Chapa-De Indian Health, we know the value of honoring Native American heritages. We encourage everyone to recognize this important day.

About Native American Heritage Day

Native American Heritage Day is celebrated on the day after Thanksgiving each year. It was started as a way to recognize and honor the many Native communities in America. The annual event was first recognized in 2008 across the country. The entire month of November is Native American Heritage Month as well. We believe that honoring Native American heritages should not be limited to a single day or month. But today is a great place to start the conversation and spread awareness!

Our Community

Northern California has many different groups of Native peoples. The United Auburn Indian Community (UAIC) is one of the tribes in our area. Chapa-De Indian Health is supported by UAIC. Chapa-De’s Board of Directors includes members of the Tribe. To learn more about Chapa-De’s leadership team, click HERE.

The historic Auburn Rancheria is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills in Auburn, California. The Tribe is comprised of both Miwok and Maidu Indians. To learn more about UAIC visit www.auburnrancheria.com, or click HERE.

Our Commitment

We are committed to promoting the health and wellness of Native peoples. We operate two private, non-profit community health centers. We contract with Indian Health Services (IHS). This allows us to provide no-cost or low-cost services and medications to verified American Indians and Alaska Natives from federally recognized and California tribes. We pride ourselves on being able to offer culturally competent care to our patients.

Chapa-De began as a response to the many healthcare disparities that Native peoples faced. We also now welcome low-income individuals and families.
